It appears to be a special occasion with the flowers on the desk and the students all looking so serious as their photograph is being taken. This room is located upstairs at Harbor House on the side of the building next to the Lawrence S. Robinson Co. I attended the 4th and 5th grades in that room. It was sunnier than the rooms on the north side of the building, so when my fourth grade teacher, Gladys Whitmore, retired the fifth grade teacher, Bertha Reed, seized the opportunity to move the fifth grade across the hall. Though the view appears very wide, it's only about 90° from end to end. It seems wider because I shot it with a 200mm lens to get the detail along the shore with minimal water and sky. I stitched the panorama from 17 separate images taken left to right, each frame rotated 5° to the right of the previous one. Yesterday I saw this same scene while driving around to take the pictures posted here, but when I arrived at this spot the sun was too high and I didn't have my tripod with me. This morning I got up before dawn and set up my tripod on the snow-covered dock at 6:15 AM. Then I waited in the bitter cold for the sun to rise. Fresh snow that fell last night made the scene even better than it was yesterday. Sometimes it just works out that way. The excursion boat "Seal" in the center of the photograph was built by Normand Joseph Bouchard for Linwood Boynton Wedge (1913-1961) and Woodrow Wilson Herrick (1914-2002) to be used as a dragger. "Seal" was owned by Samuel A. Blanchard (1926-2009) who took out fishing parties on her. - Information from Ralph Stanley 05/2011 The boat to the right of "Seal" was "Eva Anita" a 40' lobster boat built in 1959 by Bunker & Ellis for Wesley Bracy of Great Cranberry Island.
